I tried to make it a top 10 list but I could only narrow it down to 12...it's my site and I can do whatever I want! Click the slideshow button on the right and sit back to view them in order, starting from #12 and building up to the exciting climax - my best picture of 2008!

rickgold > #12 - "GNARLY" (White Mountains, CA) - These bristlecone pines are part of the grove which has the oldest living things on the planet - over 4000 years old.
rickgold > #11- "SIMPLICITY" (Zion NP, Utah) - Autumn in the left fork of North Creek; this creek is inside the Great West Canyon and eventually leads to The Subway.
rickgold > #10 - "GRANITE & GLASS (Granite Dells, Prescott AZ) - Dusk brings a glow to both the rocks and the water at Arizona's Granite Dells.
rickgold > #9 - "CASTLE MADE OF SANDSTONE" (Hopi Reservation, AZ) - One of the true hidden gems of the Southwest.
rickgold > #8 - ROOM WITH A VIEW (Canyonlands NP) - These ruins date back nearly 1000 years and can be found in an alcove up on a cliff wall in Canyonlands. There is no official trail to this location but it's one of the best views in the Southwest. Sitting here, in what was actually someone's house about 1000 years ago and not hearing a sound or seeing another person really gives me a spiritual feeling. It also makes me wonder where the hell they went to get water.
rickgold > #7 - "TUFA SUNSET GLOW" (Mono Lake, CA) - The sky explodes with color over the tufas of Mono Lake.
rickgold > #6 - "SUNSET HELL" (Badwater Basin, Death Valley, CA) - Geometric patterns in the salt formations at Badwater Basin, the lowest place tin the western hemisphere.
rickgold > #5 - "SILK & STONE" (The Narrows, Zion NP) - I was standing in fast moving 45 degree water for this shot. Waders kept me warm and a sturdy tripod kept the camera still for this long exposure.
rickgold > #4 - "A SWAMP IN ARIZONA!" - (Kachina Wetlands: Flagstaff, AZ) - I like this shot for a few reasons. First is the combination of vivid reds, greens and blues. Second is how unusual it is to find scenery like this in Arizona. Third is that I found out after climbing down into this swamp and wading around for about 1/2 hour that the water is "unfit for human contact". Apparently it has something to do with waste water...always good to read the signs BEFORE you go into these places!
#12 - "GNARLY" (White Mountains, CA) - These bristlecone pines are part of the grove which has the oldest living things on the planet - over 4000 years old.
